How to shut down electricity and water and secure the cabin before you leave.
🧹 General Cabin Close-Up Tasks

- Empty and wipe out fridge
- Wash, dry, and put away dishes
- Put dish drip pan in sink
- Clean coffee pot
- Dry wooden countertops
- Take trash & recycling with you
- Bring towels/laundry back to Pocatello
- Make a restocking list
- Vacuum and tidy as needed
- Reload mouse traps (peanut butter in blue Tupperware near back door)
- Close all upstairs doors
- Close all windows and curtains
- Turn off lights
- Turn off water faucets
- Lock all doors except back door until utilities are off
- Roll the lockbox dials randomly
💧 Turn Off the Water Pump
Location Pump house behind garage, ~35 yards from cabin.
Instructions
- Enter left-side door.
- Use lantern or flashlight.
- Walk in front of pump to right side.
- Locate yellow-handled shut-off valve.
- Turn valve to OFF (handle pointing toward you/back wall).
- Close pump house door.
⚡ Turn Off the Electricity
Location Electrical room left of main back door.
Instructions
- Enter electrical room.
- Turn all breakers OFF (switches flipped toward the sides).
- Exit electrical room.
- Lock the back door.
🔑 Final Steps
- Take what you brought with you … but leave your whiskey 🙂
- Place keys in the black lockbox
- Close lockbox and roll dials randomly
- Double-check checklist
- Safe travels home 🚗
